Unsecured Network - P2P & Illegal Activity?

Hey guys. One of my friends has an Unsecured Internet Connection which obviously allows any half decent person to steal his internet without him even knowing. I am very worried for him when it comes to this situation.

If someone were to download illegal files on LimeWire such as music, movies, or worse, child pornography, wouldn't my boy be blamed for the situation? Would there be a way to track back the person who actually committed the crime? Or again, would the crime just be put on this person who provided the connection?

Help please.

It would be the person whos has the connection but for a warrant to be severed they have to prove that HE is downloading it and they then must find it on his computer

From what I can see it varies from Country to Country.  But even when that legal angle is clear the question is is it worth letting them piggyback when you might face prosecution or questioning Even if ultimately your Lawyers won the case for you?
