Unseeded Urszula Radwanska defeats qualifier Jana Cepelova in 1st round – Tashkent Open 2011
On the first two players to contest against each other on the second day of the Tashkent Open 2011 were: qualifier Jana Cepelova and the unseeded Urszula Radwanska. The two battled on indoor hard courts of the Olympic School Tennis Courts, securing a straight set victory of 6-1, 6-4 was Pole Radwanska in just 65 minutes of play.
The two players were meeting for the first time in their professional career and were unfamiliar with each other’s style and performance. Opening the first set was qualifier Cepelova but unfortunately she was broken in the first game by Radwanska. Unseeded Radwanska then held her serve in the second game and again broke Slovak Cepelova to take a three- love lead. In the fourth game the Slovak realized that she had lost her competitive edge and finally broke her opponent in the fourth game to bag a game, however, Radwanska was not going to let her winning streak come to an end and broke back in the fifth game to eventually hold her serve in the sixth game, at which the score board read as 5-1. Serving to stay in the game was Cepelova but as she double faulted Radwanska won the set.
Radwanska won the opening set with a comprehensive victory of 6-1, and as she powered through the first set, she set the tone for t he second. Opening the second set was Radwanska and the two players won on alternate sets in the first four games to equalize the score at 2-2. In the fifth game Cepelova was first to break and in the sixth as she held her serve, she took a 4-2 lead. Radwanska made a comeback in the seventh game and in the eighth she broke her rival to balance the score at 4-4. The two were neck in neck but as the Pole held her serve in the ninth game, she went on to breaking her opponent in the tenth Radwanska strokes a stunning cross-court forehand winner and secures a berth in the second round of the 2011 Tashkent Open.
Radwanska will now face either unseeded Akgul Amanmuradova from Uzbekistan or the eighth seeded French Aravane Rezai in the second round.
