Unsuccessful offseason has Chicago Bulls uncertain about the future (Part 1) – NBA Feature
The offseason is the time when teams concentrate on their rebuilding efforts, and infuse new life into their prospects for the upcoming season by making trades and acquisitions. They say that championship teams are built in the
offseason, which then clinch the championship in the regular season. The Miami Heat won the NBA championship in the 2011-2012 season, but the task of bringing a team together that could win a championship was performed in 2010, through a great deal of negotiations
and discussions by the Miami front office.
This season saw many teams improve their rosters after gaining valuable insight about where the team stood in the league from the previous season. The Los Angeles Lakers have once again topped all teams when it comes to offseason
moves, by recruiting Steve Nash as well as Dwight Howard to put together a superstar cast that is now the favourites of clinching the NBA title. What the Lakers did this offseason is a perfect example of how a team’s future can drastically change from one
good or bad offseason. The Lakers were not even in championship conversation up until a few weeks ago, after losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semi Finals last season. But a few smart moves later, they are tipped to win the championship
next season.
The Lakers top a long list of teams that have made improvement and adjustments in the off season. The defending champions Heat have added Ray Allen to address their perimeter shooting concerns. The Boston Celtics added Jason Terry
and Courtney Lee to ensure depth in the backcourt. The Brooklyn Nets assembled a superstar cast to go with a new arena for next season, while the Minnesota Timberwolves added two keys pieces in Andrei Kirilenko and Alexey Shved. However, in all the trade talk
and offseason moves, there was one team was nowhere to be found. And that team was the Chicago Bulls.
In two seasons, the Bulls have come from middle tier to championship calibre. It has been a combination of the great coaching skills of Tom Thibodeau, raw talent of Derrick Rose and the bench depth of the Bulls as a team.
