Unsure of what to do - student exchange??

So.. I love the idea of going on my own to france or italy (i speak fluently in both) for an entire high school year! My family is all for it HOWEVER my school is not. It's not that I'm a bad student - it's just that as i will be in year ten (or rather sophomore year), i would lose a lot of ground in my education. My only alternative is to return to the same level of schooling the year after my exchange ie be in year ten while my friends are in year eleven.

What should i do?

  1. Wow, it's crazy to me that your school wouldn't accept credits from an exchange program. Maybe you should find a program you want to enter first, then ask them to discuss credit transfer with the principal or guidance counselor at your school. The problem may be that your school has never done anything like this before and they just may not be aware of how it is done.

Look for programs on this site:

and when you find one, just apply to it ... then have the program officials communicate with your school principal/ guidance counselor.

Other options are for you to go for half the school year (making up the rest of your courses during the summer) or just take a summer program. Worse comes to worse, you will have to repeat a grade, however it's a little crazy to me that the school wouldn't accept the credit transfer. I would say, go overseas, because it's an incredibly valuable learning experience and it will enrich your life and make you a very desireable candidate when you are applying to colleges and to jobs. Good luck and GO FOR IT!!
