  1. I would wait until she is retired from whatever discipline she competes in before breeding your mare.   It would be better to wait until they are of age to breed your mare

  2. A mare can have foals up until either she becomes barren, which usually happens around the age of 20/25

However it is unwise to breed mares once they get older as it increases the chances of something going wrong, we recently had an 18year old mare give birth but die from twisted gut and ruptured womb afterwards

  3. 100

  4. This depends to a large extent on the breed, on the mare's nutritional status, and on her breeding and foaling history. Most mares can have foals well up into their 20's, provided that they are cared for properly during their pregnancies. I knew one mare who had her last foal at the age of 26, and did not die until she was 33, so I know it's possible. There was someone else I knew who had a mare that was 28 and blind in one eye following an accident on the polo field ( she was a retired pony who lost her right eye from being hit with a ball at high speed) but was still producing foals for her owner each year.  Every mare is different, though. Some of them can only have a few foals in their lives, whereas others go on to have many.
