My best friend is getting married next month and I can't be there as hopefully I'll be giving birth!

They don't have a gift list so I'd like to get them something unusual - any suggestions??

(Budget about £50 - £75)

Many thanks x

  1. Hi what a shame you can't go, but you'll be experiencing another life changing event!

What do they both enjoy together? (no sniggers please!) Would you consider something along these lines.....

For example a nice photo frame, or casserole dish is great but (sorry) not that original.

If they like ice skating or horse riding why not think of a day out with a disposable camera, a kinda of self made memory day. It is personal to the two of them, and can be something they share with you, photos memories etc. It will not break or tarnish, and will always stand the test of time and fashion.  Perhaps a cheaper option would be a pair of tickets to an event and a home packed pic-nic with fav foods and a bottle of wine, or a movie or a show for up to £30 and a meal for up to £50 afterwards... nothing extravagant, but well thought with their likes in mind!..

I hope this has given you something to think about!

Best of luck with the present and the baby! and remember always sleep when he/she does you can catch up on the housework later!! LOL

  2. well, do they have thier own place? own car? i'm not being nosy i just asked you that to tell you this...if they dont, honey, one of the best things u can do is give them the money. I am being wed aug 9th and we slipped a small note in saying that there is no gift list, however, we'll accept monetary donations. My fiance's cousin is getting married this saturday and they have a gift list with plates, forks, appliances, and, they wont exactly be living together on their own so their house is fully stocked with appliances so i didnt see the point.I think that if they are living together already and not exactly moving into a new home, they prolly wont need expensive plates and appliances. i wld take that money, personally, slip it into an envelope with a nice card and give them. a newly wed couple can always do with money. most couples may have small loans to pay back for the wedding also.

if you dont wanna give them money, then i wld say a small, 1-tier cake. yes they will already have wedding cake but it goes so fast, when they have finished given everyone piece, they might not be a whole lot left for them!!! well i just thought it a nice idea somehow, but I hope this helps!!!

  3. www.bygonenews.com

Things like making there own newspaper for them to keep with there life story plans .pics,& wedding etc

  4. How about something towards the honeymoon, or vouchers. if they've already set up home together then chances are they wont be grateful of a new toaster or dinner service.

  5. how about one of those "red letter days" that argos or boots do? could be anything from hot air balloon ride to a photoshoot to a spa day. i'd love one of them!

  6. Have a tree planted on their behalf - choose a part of the country they like and they can visit and watch it grow over the years - also becomes part of the reason to have a weekend away. lots of organisations offer the service - check the net.

  7. A custom portrait painting/drawing or  a gift certificate for one if there is not enough time to get a painting/drawing completed before the wedding.

  8. A wedding Goat couple from Oxfam.  Ã‚£50

Your friends will receive a card from you telling them what you have bought (2 goats for a farm in Africa)

An ethical present really is the way to go these days!

  9. Bride and groom gift baskets are in style right now, and cute. Pick a theme, something they will both enjoy and use. Put as much in the basket as you can afford. Examples are their fav cocktail like a margarita, with everything you need to make one, the mixer the salt, the booze, even two glasses. A snuggle by the tv/fire night with blankets, cocoa, snacks, gift certigicate to Blockbuster.

Another idea is to take a mundane ho hum practical present, and make it cute. Buy a casserole glass dish in a wicker carrier, and fill it with casserole related items like the spatula and spoon you need to get the food out of the dish,  even a cookbook.

Buy a cookie sheet, and same thing, cookbook,  spatula, potholders, even a tin of cinammon.

A big pasta pot, filled with spagetti, spices, cookbook, tongs, potholders.

If you go to somewhere cheap like Walmart, and you look around, you can really get a potfull of cute stuff for the pot, and go to the bookstore and check out the bargain books, you never know. I just paid $10 american for a smaller pasta pot at Walmart..
