Unwittingly grew a Marijuana plant.?

Husband and I (and many of his friends) have this running joke about how I can't keep any plants alive. I'm always buying them and doing everthing I can to keep them alive and thriving. But they're always dead after a month or so. So the jokesters brought home this little plant and asked me to see what I could do with it. So, dumb me, did what I do with any other plant. And it's thriving. It really is the only plant that I've got to live. I think that is the only reason why I found out they did that. They figured it would die and that would be the end of thier joke.

Okay, to the question. I know it's illegal, but why can't I keep it? It's actually a very preety plant. It grows green flowers and everything. And it's big, so it really adds color to the room. How much trouble can I get into for having one Marijuana plant?

Uproot the plant and chuck it in the trash. Invest in a cactus. They have to be watered only as many times as you remember to water them. Easy to care for... come in many shades of green and many interesting shapes.  Most succulents are also easy to care for.

So, where did your husband "legally" buy "this little plant" in the first place??

Yes it is a very pretty plant but because marijuana is illegal, the plant is illegal. Just hope nobody will tell on you if you want to keep it. I dont blame you for wanting to because they are nice and actually smell good too. I think if its a female plant you can get in a lot of trouble cuz thats where the actual weed comes from, but if its male its not smokeable, so you might want to check around online and see if its male or female and if it makes a difference as far as the law in ur state.

you can keep it, not legally because it's possession, but if you really want to you could. of course that opens the door to lots of problems: are any of your good friends law enforcement people, do you engage in any other illicit activity that might yield a police search, etc.?

Marijuana plants are some of the hardest plants to keep alive in comparison to the plants you seem to have so much trouble in keeping alive for a month.

So either your lying, or that is not a true marijuana plant, and is its cousin, which is a completely legal herb plant because it contains no THC

You can go to jail for a while if you have it. Possession of narcotics. I would suggest you get rid of it while you can. Get a sign and put "free" on it and stick it on the side of an abandoned road.

As to legality, you need to pose that to a lawyer in your state.  If you wanted a quick answer you could call the local police and ask for the narcodics department and then ask them as you did here.  But you may want to do it from a pay phone so they can not knock on your door five minutes later.

my friend's dad (one of the head gaurdi in Dublin) told me this story of this old man who had lots of them growing in his garden, and was arrested for possession with the intention of distribution. it turned out the local stoner kids had been using the end of his garden to grow them as he couldn't walk the 100m to the shed at the end of his large garden. he got off as a camera in his garden cought them doing it, but if he had been convicted on a first offence he could have gotten up to 5 years, or as little as time spent and some comunity service. but don't think any law enforcement officer will overlook a plant. they may overlook someone with a small stash. but the second you have a plant you automatically get that little 'with intent to supply' tagged on to your possesion, and that changes a first offence sentance from fine/warning with less than half a 9-bar in europe ie 4.5ounces/ some amount i'm not sure of in the states.(you also automatically get 'with intent to supply' if you  have more than these amounts.)

to ansewer your other question. you can't keep it becouse although you have no intention to smoke/supply others with substances taken from this plant it is remarkably hard to prove this...or any 'real intent' for that matter.  so although you will say ' i just liked how it looked' or even: ' i didn;t know it was a marijuana' they will not beleve you....

so get rid of it, or smoke it quickly.

It depends on where you live. Its legal in the state California if you have a medical recommendation. If its a male its legal, its called hemp. But I doubt the cop are going to come in your house and check your plants so I wouldn't worry.

If you really wanted to keep it, you could move out of the country and in to Canada where it;s legal.

The police instantly assume the worst if you have a drug plant on you, but even if someone has teh equipment to rob a bank, they can't arrest them if they didn't do anything wrong...

um if its only 1 plant i dont think youll get busted just dont grow an entire basement of them. If you do get busted itll be a very minumum fine or bail for jail cuz its only 1 plant. OR SMOKE IT AND GET RID OF IT.

It depends on the state.  In Nevada you can go to prison for seeds.  Be smart and get rid of it, illegal is illegal.

In some jurisdictions you would be charged for the weight of the plant (dirt included), if your plant weighs ten pounds than you could be charged with possession of ten pounds of marijuana, a felony.

Quite a lot, actually.  Granted, yes, you can grow one without the criminal intention of selling it or using the drug, but nobody else knows that.

So long story short, just throw it away.  Or you could burn it.  If you burn it, just make sure it's far away from the neighbors, and don't inhale the smoke!!!
