Unzip Me all set to take the Irish O’Brien Stakes
Exiting off a victory in the Wishing Well Stakes, the six-year-old Martin F. Jones trained mare, Unzip Me, is expected to take the upcoming race as well, because there isn’t much threat to counter in the Irish O’Brien Stakes held at Santa Anita Park’s turf
course on 17 March, 2012, at about six and a half furlongs.
In the field of 6, 4-year-old and above fillies, Unzip Me is the most accomplished mare, who has already made two starts of the new campaign, the first one being the Grade 3 Monrovia Handicap also at six and a half furlongs on 2 January, 2012. Harris Farms
owned, Unzip Me, couldn’t catch her stride in the deep stretch, as she was pushed back by, Mizdirection, and her brilliant run to win the race.
Unzip Me finished third on the day, as Wild Mia finished second, while Mizdirection wrapped up proceedings by clocking the six and a half furlong sprint in 1 minute and 11.64 seconds.
However, Unzip Me bounced back in emphatic style in her next race 27 days later in the Wishing Well Stakes at Santa Anita Park’s turf course over at six and a half furlongs on 29 January, 2012, under regular jockey Rafael Bejarano.
The California bred daughter of City Zip, out of mare Escape With Me by Arazi, Unzip Me downed the six and a half furlong sprint in 1 minute and 11.94 seconds, as she defeated Teroda in second and Remit in third.
Though there isn’t much competition in the Irish O’Brien Stakes for Unzip Me, but if there is rain right before the race or a day before, and there is a rain forecast, than it will be a different story altogether, and things might get a little interesting.
Firstly Santa Anita will not run a downhill race if the rain comes, so familiar ground goes out of the window, over Unzip Me has raced 4 consecutive times, twice the year before and twice this year.
Secondly with unknown territory, Unzip Me could face a few problems with the competition running on even ground at the end of the day.
