Unzip Me has a score to settle in the Las Cienegas Stakes
The 4-year-old filly, Mizdirection, who is enjoying a three race win streak has all the more reasons to be proud of one particular things which her trainer Mike Puype didn’t even see coming.
Jungle Racing’s Mizdirection over the Santa Anita’s unique hillside turf course in the Grade 3 Monrovia Handicap, went against the much more accomplished, Unzip Me and with a considerable margin defeated the Martin Jones trained 6-year-old mare.
It was a big win especially when the California bred City Zip mare adores the Santa Anita’s hillside turf course, who has landed seven races there out of eleven starts, tells the story how difficult it was for Mizdirection to top Unzip Me over her favourite
race course.
The two mares have only met once in before, and now the rematch is set to happen in the 38th running of the Grade 3, $100,000 Las Cienegas Handicap at Santa Anita Park’s turf course over a distance of six and a half furlongs on 14 April, 2012.
Jockey Garrett Gomez was aboard Misdirection in the Monrovia Handicap, and the owner of Jungle Racing, Jim Rome, who is a famous sports talk radio and television personality was all praise for the veteran jockey.
“Garrett Gomez can host the show tomorrow,” he exclaimed. “Garrett can do my TV show; it’s Garrett’s world, whatever he wants. Garrett Gomez is burning. I’ve had a lot of really good things happen to me in business and in life, but nothing has ever felt
as good as that, in a professional sense. . .I don’t know anything that’s ever felt that good.”
Unzip Me has a score to settle over her favoured track with just not Mizdirection, because there’s another female who has bested her before and her name is Broke Dreams.
Defeated Unzip Me in the Grade 3 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes also at Santa Anita’s unique hillside turf course over a distance of six and a half furlongs on 30 September, 2011, where Unzip Me finished fourth on the day.
The 5 to 1 shot for the Las Cienegas Stakes, has just not beaten Unzip Me once, but three times in her career, and that is a serious threat for the Harris Farms owned mare going into the next race.
