Unzip Me scratched out of the Great Lady M. Stakes
Harris Farms owned 6-year-old mare, Unzip Me’s 2012 campaign is still on hold according to trainer Martin Jones, after pointing the City Zip mare toward the $70,000 Great Lady M. Stakes, and scratching her by saying, “I'm having some trouble with her," Jones said without elaborating.
If Unzip Me had gone on to participate in the six furlong turf sprint and had won it at Hollywood Park that could’ve shot her earnings up to the million-mark.
Bred in California by Donald Valpredo and Harris Farm, Unzip Me started her 2012 campaign with a run in the Grade 3 Monrovia Handicap over the Santa Anita Park’s unique turf course at about six and a half furlongs.
Under her regular rider, Rafael Bejarano, Unzip Me bested Wild Mia in the stretch and covered the 6 ½ furlong distance in 1 minute and 11.64 seconds.
Her second start of the 2012 campaign was in the $86,000 Wishing Well Stakes over the same venue and distance on 29 January, 2012, where she defeated Teroda in second and Remit in third with the winning time of 1 minute and 11.94 seconds.
The Wishing Well was Unzip Me’s last race, and the mare has not worked since 29 April.
With 14 races out of 25 starts, Unzip Me has a bankroll of $959,228, and she was once the best female turf sprinter in the whole of California, until Mizdirection dethroned her off her title.
Jungle Racing owned 4-year-old filly has strung together a 4 race win streak, which started for an allowance/optional claimer at Hollywood Park last year.
Mike Puype trained filly added to her success this year by winning three races on the trot, all at six and a half furlongs over the Santa Anita Park.
The daughter of Mizzen Mast is exiting a victory in the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes in her second dirt start in 10 career starts.
Mizdirection is the heavy favourtie to win the Great Lady M. Stakes on 27 May, 2012, on the Memorial Day weekend at Hollywood Park, where she will run over a distance of six furlongs over the venue’s turf course.
