Unzip Me to annex the Senator Ken Maddy Stakes when the Santa Anita Autumn meet begins
The 5-year-old mare, Unzip Me, has been creating havoc over Santa Anita’s unique downhill turf course, and have gone on to land four stakes wins there. Now, Unzip Me is the favourite to headline the Grade 3, $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes caste on 30
September, 2011.
The Senator Ken Maddy Stakes will commence at Santa Anita’ 2011 Autumn meet when racing returns to the race course for twenty four days through 6 November.
The daughter of City Zip, out of Escape With Me by Arazi, Unzip Me has had three starts at Santa Anita, where she kicked off her season from.
Conditioned by Martin Jones for Harris Farms, Unzip Me represented her connections in the Grade 3 Monrovia Handicap on 2 January, 2011, at about 6 ½ furlongs on grass.
Unzip Me was a constant threat there as she went on to win three races on the trot back in 2010 at the same turf course, did it again with the over Broken Dreams and Reba is Tops.
The Monrovia Handicap attracted older fillies of 4 years and above, as the 5 year-old-mare romped past them to cover the distance in 1 minute and 12.72 seconds.
Unzip me stayed at Santa Anita till April, contesting in two other races as she won her second start there in the Clocker’s Corner Handicap on 5 March, 2011.
Oozing with confidence, the multiple stakes winning mare participated in another race to renew her grade 3 status, in the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes.
The 6 ½ furlong dash was no problem, because Unzip Me favours steh distance, but Separate Forest got the best of her, winning the race in 1 minute and 12.64 seconds, Unzip Me rolled in second.
Since then, Unzip Me has gone to Hollywood Park and Del Mar, with an allowance claimer at Hollywood Park where she finished second, and after headed off to Del Mar.
Unzip Me is coming off a win at Del Mar in the Daisy Cutter Handicap on 12 August, where she went like a tracer bullet from start to finish, and covered the 5 furlong dash in 55.60 seconds.
It was a proud moment for trainer Marty Jones, as the filly displayed a performance of skill, charisma and most importantly the will to compete. Let’s hope the trend continues in the Santa Anita 2011 Autumn meet
