It's hard to phrase what i'm asking, but like were there still a lot of native americans around in the early 1900's? and did we still have conflict and stuff with them like we did in earlier centuries?

  1. The last major conflict was the Battle of Wounded Knee in 1890. If  you wish to read more on it, go here-http://www.woundedkneemuseum.org/index.h...

  2. In 1900 the population that claimed to be NA on the US census was about 250,000. In 2000 it was 2.48 million.

There has been conflict since 1900, although more subtly than the run 'em and gun 'em type of conflicts in the past.

The Carlisle Indian School was in operation until 1918.

The Indian Citizenship Act wasn't passed until 1924 (After women and African American obtained suffrage).

In the 50's the government tried to move NA's off reservations into urban centers to Americanize them. Many struggled to adapt to this kind of life. This led to their involvement in the Civil Rights movement in the late 60's and 70's.

From 1969-1971 78 NA's seized Alcatraz until they were removed by federal officials.

In 1973 1 killed 1 wounded at a 2nd event at Wounded Knee.

This is just within the U.S. I'm sure the answer would be very different if accounting for the entire double continent.

  3. Yes there were a lot of native indians in the early 1900's.  However,  most of them were on reservations.

No.  There was not a lot of conflict at that time because they had been beaten into submission.  In other words.  They lost the Indian Wars.
