Upcoming events will help in assessing Saina Nehwal’s game, says national coach Pullela Gopichand
India’s national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, who is also former All England Open Champion, said that the upcoming tournaments before London Olympics will help to assess the game of Saina Nehwal in a better way.
The coach is optimistic that the forthcoming tournaments including Badminton Asia Championships and India Open Super Series will serve a good platform for Saina to get stronger by employing her tactics that she has been learning in her changed training sessions.
The 22-year-old Saina, who has been positioned at number 5 in Women’s Singles world placements, is one of the most talented shuttlers in the world who is a potential threat to the supremacy of China.
She has been working extra hard in training sessions and has also lost her weight to move in the court faster.
Her dedication and commitment towards the game is quite impressive and she is targeting to perform her worth in Olympic Games, which will be held in England in July-August.
Gopichand has been working hard to make Saina a better player and through his support Saina has been getting superb results as she is the only female shuttler from India who has won Super Series titles in the presence of all top shuttlers in the world.
While talking about the Saina’s target to win a medal at Olympic Games, Gopichand said that she needs to be consistent in her performance. He thinks that the upcoming events will help Saina to elevate her game.
He said, "There is a lot of belief but she needs to be consistent. There are a few important events coming up, leading to the Olympics, starting with the Badminton Asia Championships in Qingdao (China) next week and then the Yonex-Sunrise India Open in New
Delhi which begins on April 24. These events will give us a chance to assess her game."
Saina has recently won the Women’s Singles crown at the last month’s Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in Switzerland.
The Indian ace is looking forward to maintain her elevated run in the upcoming tournaments and with the ultimate target to prove her worth in Olympic Games.
