Upcoming prospect says he can’t see how Carl Froch will lose
In the midst of preparing for his upcoming weekend bout against Arthur Abraham, Carl “The Cobra” Froch has managed to impress sparring partner and prospect Edwin Rodriguez.
“I can’t see how Abraham will beat Carl,” Rodriguez said in an ESPNstar
article.
Rodriguez, 24, came to the attention of the former WBC super middleweight champion of the world after a series of dominant wins, at which point Froch spoke with the upcoming prospect about training with him.
It also helped that Rodriguez resembled Abraham in the ring.
“I have a tight defense like Abraham and have kept my hands up in the gym so Carl can work on opening Abraham's defense and get ready for a KO,” Rodriguez confirmed.
Froch will be looking to redeem his last Super Six Boxing Classic effort, a tough battle in April against Mikkel Kessler in which he lost his WBC crown.
Like Froch, Abraham is coming off a defeat. Abraham was disqualified in a contest against American Andre Dirrell when he battered him after he had slipped on the canvas.
Froch opened up about training with Rodriguez. “Sparring with Edwin has been brilliant. He is very fast, can punch with both hands and stays there at times like Abraham will [during our fight]. I feel he has far more natural ability and speed than Abraham,”
Froch speculated.
Rodriguez, 17-0 with 13 knockouts, hopes the once in a lifetime sparring opportunity will open up new doors and help him advance through the super middleweight ranks.
“This has been a good opportunity for me to train with an elite athlete like Carl. I have seen first-hand that he is a world class fighter.”
Froch and Abraham will go head to head in Helsinki, Finland. The winner will be crowned WBC super middleweight champion and will be guaranteed a slot in the next round of the Super Six tournament.
