I have a Panasonic Plasma TV 1080p, and I have a DVD Panasonic that upconvert DVD's to 1080p, so the definition that I see now in commercial movies is WOW !!!. However I have thinking about to update to bluray, but I went today to BestBuy and I did not see too much difference of what I see now in my screen compared with what I saw there in BluRay. Could somebody tell me if it is worth to have a Blu-ray. I calibrate my TV every 3 months and gives me good quality.

  1. Upconverted DVDs can look great, but you must also understand that DVD is limited in resolution compared to Blu-Ray Disc.  With the same title, with both DVD and Blu-Ray versions made to take the best possible advantage of the formats, the Blu-Ray Disc title will look better because Blu-Ray Disc is simply capable of greater video bandwidth.

DVD will still look good, but it won't be better than Blu-Ray Disc with the best discs.  However, it is possible to have a Blu-Ray Disc title that was not made to take full advantages of the format's capabilities, but that's a software problem.

Currently, I'd probably hold off on a Blu-Ray Disc player until a couple more player generations have passed.  That way, you may have a better Blu-Ray Disc player.

Either that, or buy a PS-3 with the optional Bluetooth DVD/Blu-Ray Disc remote control.  The benefit of a PS-3 is that it's comparably priced to a standalone Blu-Ray Disc player and the PS-3's Blu-Ray Disc player can be easily updated so long as the PS-3 can access the internet through a broadband internet connection.
