a few asked that i update to let em know how my 17 year old quarter horse was doing. so here it is. He is doing great!!! the horse that supposedly had soft almost diarrhea for over 9 years has normal poo. a few days after the ivermectin his droppings looked like he had eaten spaghetti and rice. ewwww. the filly was a bit better. that and regular good food has done the job. He is filling out where he needs to and slimming down where he needs to. in two weeks should i use the same wormer?? or which one should i use next? iver is my fave but i don't want to get em used to it.

thanks all

  1. I dont really get road apples answer. It doesnt make very much sense to me.

    But anyway.

GOOD im glad to hear that he is doing good. I was wondering when u were going to let us know how he is. LOL i thought i was going to miss. Its just by chance that i just asked a question and are hanging around here till i get some answers. lol

    thanks for updating!

oh and i think the same wormer medicine will be fine.

  2. Wow Char, you want forgiveness for your laziness?

You have no sympathy from me.

You can use the same dewormer, since it's working so well. Every once in a while you can change it up to make sure you're flushing everything out, but ivermectin kills a broad spectrum of parasites.

  3. no u typically roate between 3 wormers...and also question:do u feed him bran mash?

  4. i dont use the same wormer constantly or parasites get immune to it.. try rotating and come back to it again later.

  5. I would hit him again with the same wormer, and do the rotation the next time around.  You need to kill off any ivermectin sensitive larvae that remained after your last dosing with ivermectin...the ones that are not resistant to it can become resistant if they survived the last dosing.  It's hard to explain what I mean in few words, but by re-dosing you actually help to avoid resistance from developing.  It is because there were so many, you may not have gotten them all.  anyway, repeat the ivermectin...and I'd use ivermectin gold....then change off the next time you deworm...is what I think you should do.  Thanks for the update!!!
