Question:

Updated Pictures for Conformation Evaluation?

Can someone please help me judge my horse's conformation? I'm usually really good with this type of stuff, but I fear that I am trying to make myself see the lighter side of things because she is mine. PLEASE don't be shy, and no sugar-coating allowed :)

She's a 2 year old Dun Quarter Horse filly.

  1. i know that this is looks not normal but your horse is just growing and soon the withers will be about the same as the hind quarters. don't worry. but i would put a little more weight on her other wise she looks great very beautiful. just let natur do the rest for your filly be for you know it she will be a beautiful western or enlish ( witch ever you ride ) horse

  2. She's a beautiful horse!

Her whole hind end is a little higher up than normal.

Her back legs are really nicely shaped though from what I saw.

Her neck is a bit thick but not too bad.

    Overall a lovely horse!

  3. okay honest opinion. . . the horse looks better then most ive seen in the last few days.

i still like the face. the legs look okay, except for the back legs are kindda not lined up "correctly" sorta behind (if that's the right term). . . and too strieght/stiff (but it's not as bad as some ive seen. . . at least it's a fault i can live with in a horse b/c the behind looks good). . . the legs seem good to me (legs are my weakness cause i'm still learning and dont have my notes at hand). over all the horse looks good to me, again down hill aside b/c if it is a quater horse that is acceptable. . .

(in the last week i've seen some horrors of a horse out there, this one is nice to look at for me. . . and that is saying something).

if i was looking at the horse i'd consider buying (after i got a second opinion and vet check) but the horse stands better then others, and i really do like the front legs for some reason... i may be wrong but i like it.

  4. Those aren't really adequate photos for a confo critique. We can't even see her neck. Get her squared up with her neck straight so she's not looking at you. Get a photo of each side, and back and front. Make sure she's squared and on level ground!

  5. his hind end is higher then what it should be

  6. Sorry.  Good try, but these photos aren't much better than your first batch.  You need to get a friend to stand her up for you, and your angle has to be level with the horse, or she looks terribly distorted.  It takes a little practice.

Now she looks dreadfully down hill, sway-backed, with a short, weak, somewhat ewe neck.  But she still has a very pretty face and nice eyes.

  7. Well since you asked here we go:

~Hind end much higher than her withers

    ~Camped out

~High tail set paired with short croup

    ~Knife necked

~Small body structure and thin hide

    ~Weak in the loin

She's got a pretty color and sweet face. But color only covers up so much.

  8. I love her color and nice straight legs.  She also has a nice face and expression (In my opinion, expression and additude are the most important things.)  She's still young, and her front end and hind end should even out.  I'm not so crazy about her shoulder, and her back and neck are on the long side.  But overall, I like her.

  9. Everythings pretty great except here hind end it a little higher up then normal and her neck is maybe a litle to thick but overall shes in a great conformation

  10. And keep in mind that all 2 year olds look a little funny. She wont be what shes going to be until shes 4 to 6 years old. Give her a few years to fill out and get her front end the same height as her back end. Shes a beautiful horse, just needs a little growin yet.

  11. I think she looks good for a 2 year old!  It's very common for young horses to have higher butts than withers, and she will probably grow out of that.  She will also add muscles in all the right places which will add to her look.  Her back looks a little long but it might just be the way she's standing or something else that will even out as she grows.

She has  a nice head and what they call a "kind eye" meaning  that she looks pretty sweet, friendly and easy going.  She has slightly big ears, which she may or may not grow into, but don't worry about that - my mare also has big ears and it just makes her cuter.

Overall, I think she's a good looking 2 year old and I love her color and the stripes on her legs.

  12. She looks good from what I can tell. The only thing I can see is her backend is a little higher up than the rest of her body but she is only 2. Usally baby horses grow and match there behind. She is cute and I hope you have fun with her.

  13. all that i can see is that she is downhill. she should grow out of it once she done maturing. she also looks slightly thin, but not a bad thin. other than that though she's great.

  14. She is higher in the back than the front, but she is just a 2 year old and could even out by 5. Her legs are straight. I like the angle of her pasterns. Her hocks are set low, which would be good for speed and maneuvering. She could be bigger in her hindquarters, but that is also because of her youth. I like her neck and throat latch and she has a decent shoulder slope. As I said her top line should even out as she grows. Overall she's a nice looking horse.
