Hi I just got a new Garmin Nuvi 250W and wanted to register and update the unit.

I'm not sure what to do because when i press the download button a windows pop up comes up asking me

the pop up just says Autoplay "Garmin" and has a block to check

Choice one allways do this to view pictures useing windows ?

PICTURE OPTIONS

Choice two has a little camera icon and says import pictures useing windows

Choice Three, View pictures useing Windows Media center

General Options

Open Folder To view Files

Set AutoPlay defaults in control panel.

I'm confused because al i want to do is update my unit so are any of these choices the right one ?

Thankyou in advance 10 points for a best answer

  1. You can just cancel out of that box.  Windows sees some image files on the nuvi and wants to display them.

To update the firmware on your Garmin, download their WebUpdater program.  It installs on your computer.  Then run the WebUpdater program while your Garmin is connected to the PC.  WebUpdater is pretty much a wizard and will guide you through the process.

Do note that these updates will only update the firmware on the GPS receiver.  Such updates fix bugs or add minor new functions to the device.

When you register your Garmin at their website, you can find out if you are eligible for a free map update.  If you are not eligible, map updates cost $70-120.  They're not absolutely necessary, though they could be useful if you travel in newly-built areas very often.  Otherwise you can wait a while to do a map update.
