  1. First, make sure you have enough RAM and space for running XP on your computer. Secondly, insert the installation disk and follow the instructions.

  2. This can be a very easy process.  First go buy a copy of windows XP.  Second, you need to do some research.  What type of computer do you have?  Did you buy if from HP, Dell, Compaq, or somewhere like that?  If so, you need to go to their website and find your pc and look under the specs for your pc (you can use the owners manual if you still have it) and find out how much memory you motherboard will support.  I'm gonna gues here and say that you would be safe with buying 2  1GB Sticks of SDRAM from your local computer store......without having all your computer information, i cant tell you what clock speed you need. But just tell the person you talk to you want the average clock spped if they ask.  Next, install the memory. This is simple. Open your computer.  See the other Ram chips in there??  On both the ends of the chips there are little things to puch down or pull back on that will release the chip.  Replace with new chips.  Put your computer case back together and then start your computer and hurry and put in the xp dvd.  It will read and ask "boot from cd press any key"...press any key to begin installation.  The rest it will walk you threw.  When you get to it, if you want to keep all your filesmake sure you click on upgrade and not new install.  Hope this helps...later

  3. First you need to get more memory, because WinXP takes more memory than Win98. It probably is a good idea though because microsoft has stopped supporting Win98

  4. You are going to have to buy XP, which is around 80 to 100 US dollars. There are no free downloads.

  5. You'll probably want to do a clean install even if you use an XP upgrade instead of the full edition, so back up everything on your hard drive that you'd like to keep. You can try to install XP on its own partition without removing Win98, but enough can go wrong that it's still wise to back up your data.

With a clean install, you'll reformat the hard drive and load XP as the operating system. If you use an upgrade, you'll need to have your original Windows 98 media available so the XP disc will conclude that you have a previous version of Windows. If you use the full version/non-upgrade version, you won't need the Windows 98 CD.

Probably the main step in beginning installation of XP is to reboot the computer with the XP disc in the CD or DVD drive. If you try this and find yourself in Win98 instead, set the BIOS to boot from the optical drive before booting from the hard drive.

And a site worth mentioning is
