Upf_geelong has a good idea, but don't many of the Aboriginal tribes still live by the use of firewood ?

I am not sure what the idea was but yes they still burn firewood.  If the idea had something to do with all people on earth living like the Aboriginal Tribes I think the point you are making is very valid.  If every person on earth burned firewood for cooking and heating the amount of smoke polluting the air would be astronomical.
