I need a moderatly priced upgrade lens for the Canon 450D that I'm thinking of buying. I'm thinking about the 17-85mm due to the useful range. But is the image quality much better that the 18-55mm IS kit lens that comes with the Canon 450D?

  1. According to http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/Canon%20...

the verdict said "So at the end of the day the lens is a tad better than the cheapo EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 but it can't really compete with the new EF-S 18-55m f/3.5-5.6 IS or the EF 17-40mm f/4 USM L."

  2. Luckily for you, canon has alot of lens for that camera, they are available on http://amazon.com, and other online stores, as well as some photography stores. What's your budget?, maybe you should be mention that the next time.

    http://www.amazon.com/Canon-28-135mm-3-5...

hey , that's the canon EF 28-135mm lens, it has a largest range of the telephoto compared to the kit 18-55mm lens. It's more expensive, and more luxurious. You won't be dissapointed, it's kitted with the eos 40d, which is a semi-pro camera, and you should it ::p

    The Price: 410$

    http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-70-300mm-4-5...

that's 70-300mm lens from sigma, a trusted manufacturer for  both nikon and canon cameras. And it's fairly priced, it's has a large range, and it will let you get closer to your subject.

Those are two mid-range lenses which to fit into your budget, but if it doesn't you can look at more lenses at

http://amazon.com, and see what fits your taste search for canon EF or canon EF-S
