I am a student, and I received my copy of a Windows Vista Ultimate CD. When I upgrade my computer from Windows Vista Business to Windows Vista Ultimate, will I lose or will it hurt any of the files or programs that I already have on my computer?

  1. It May Happen. When I Upgraded My Windows 2000 To XP I Lost Every Photo, Word Document, EVERYTHING. I Have Little Vista Experience, Just Backup All Your Important Things To A Flash Drive.

  2. The installation shouldn't cause any change to the programs and files that you have on your system as long as you choose the option to upgrade.

But there are issues that you need to consider - Does your PC have what it takes to take full advantage of Vista Ultimate - fast graphics card, a few GB of Ram? Do you have a 32 bit version of Vista installed and is the Vista Ultimate version that you plan to install also a 32 bit version? If it's a 64 bit Vista Ultimate and you're using a PC with a 32 Bit processor, you won't be able to run it. You must have at least a Core 2 processor to run 64 bit Vista.

  3. it depends how you do it make sure you do not do a format and install because this will format the drive and everything will be gone.

you should probably do an archive and install rather than an upgrade because this will eliminate common upgrade problems.

how ever you are not going to see a significant difference between business and ultimate.

before doing anything like this it is always important to back up at least your critical files just in case.....you should do this periodically anyways to be safe.
