Upgrade to New Video Card?

Hello, I need help in upgrading a video card. I have a dell dimension 4600 and i have a nvidia geforce fx 5200(128 MB) card and i have two card i have in mind which is nvidia geforce 7950 GT (512MB) or Radeon X800XT (256MB). Which of those two card would be better and actually work with the PSU i have in my dell dimension 4600.?

  1. Your motherboard supports AGP cards, and all three cards are AGP...

    But the x800 is around the same performance as the fx card. So that would be pretty much moving sideways rather than up.

    The 7950 would be a definate upgrade however, the 4600's 250watt power supply will probably not be able to handle it.

    This is a tough question here. You have 2 options.

    Spend the 100s on a video card and at least $100 or more on a new power supply which you can get for dells from PC POwer & Cooling...

    Or you can save that money and buy a more modern pc with a dual core proc and PCI-E video card.

    My advice is to save the money. If you add the cost of the video card and psu, it's probably going to be $250 or more.  Add $250 more and you can get a better system for around $499...


  2. Make sure the slot is the same, PCI-Express and that the card you get, doesn't require a 6pin PSU power connector. For example the 8500GS. My 8600GT doesn't need one, but that might be out your budget. I reccomend you get the 8series card because it supports DirectX 10
