If I upgrade the "Big 3" with 2 guage wires for a 1500w rms amplifier.

Will a 160 amp alternator be good enough? I want to find a HO Alternator and this is as high as I could find for a Jeep Cherokee

  1. too many amps for a 2 gauge wire imo.

just go with 1/0 gauge wire from the start man. there will be much better current flow. also, add a fuse to the powe wire that will be running from the battery + to the alternator. if the alternator or any other big3 source already has wires, just add the new 1/0 wire to it.

ive had some customers that just love showing off the thick 1/0 cable too lol. the cheapest you can find 1/0 cable online that is true 1/0 is for around 1.75 US bucks . very cheap imo.

  2. that sound be fine to start with

make sure you fuse the alt wire have seen some that wave had problames if they didn.t

  3. You should be able to get by with a 160A alternator.

You should look into upgrading to a deep cycle battery (if you haven't already).  Then you should be all set upgrading your charging system.

    Good Luck!!!

  4. check around at some local shops. i got my alt. rebuilt from 120a to 180a for under $200....i just told them to go as big as it could.
