Upgrading factory car stereo system?

Question

I have a 99' Honda Civic sedan

My rear 6x9s are gone so I was thinking of replacing all of the speakers, front and rear. I don't need a system to let people down the street know Im coming, but enough so that i can hear the bass good. The factory speakers almost got the job done. I listen to a lot of rap and hiphop.

Im also thinking of putting in an amp.

No objection to your speaker selection.  And yes, if you amplify them, you'll definitely bring them to life.  I would recommend adding a single sub to your system to give you that added punch you're missing.  With that in mind, when you look for an amplifier, you can look for a good 5-channel amp to make it all easier for you.  A single 12" can add enough emphasis to that low-end bass  and at the same time not take up too much room in the trunk.
