Question:

Upgrading from Windows XP Media Center Edition to Vista Home Premium?

I have HP pavilion dv6119.

AMD Turion 64X2

Nvidia Geforce 6150

1 GB ram

Windows XP Media Center Edition

It has a sticker that says Windows Vista Capable

and I have a Vista Home premium 64/32

I would like to know the pros and cons of upgrading xp to vista 64 bit and to vista 32 bit

the reasons are appreciated

for example, it would get slower because the ram is only 1gb

  1. Well if you really must upgrade, you definitely need more ram since you only have the minimum to run vista.Vista isnt really bug free so it isnt exactly guarantee it will run smoother. You  need to have  a good enough vcard to run aero on vista at least 256.I dont recommend upgrading just yet only because  the bugs arent all gone from vista.Until ms fix all them bugs, I and my opinion would just stay with what you have.Besides, you could just buy a new laptop with vista preinstalled in the next few yrs.

  2. You definitely need more RAM if you want to upgrade. Personally, I prefer XP since I can find all the tools more easily than in Vista and used less hardware.

  3. Why would you switch to Vista if you all ready have an up and running operating system?

If it ain't broke..don't fix it..

For now, your better off with wha you have.

The latest and greatest isn't neccessarily the best..

    Good luck

  4. vista is eye candy and is a system hog it uses not just tons of ram but ties up the processor you over all speed will decrease it would be 1 step backwards

  5. look, everyone thinks that this vista stuff is sooooo great, but its not, word is totally bonkers, the programs from loading to doing with them what you can with xp it takes to long to load, programs freeze, and you only end up getting a whole bunch of plug-ins and patch kits. trust me its not worth the money. you should stay with xp, even if you have upgrade a few more things in the long run its better than vista, until they come out with some more better stick with xp home or office
