Is it possible to upgrade my 40GB PS3 to a 80GB? Like, do I take it to some guys, cough up some cash and get my upgraded PS3? And is there anyway to make my PS3 compatible with PS2 games? Help please.

Thank you.

  1. Yes, you can upgrade the hard drive to a bigger hard drive.  All you need is a laptop 5400 rpm SATA hard drive (I think that's right).

You can't make the 40 gb PS3 play PS2 game disks because it's missing the vital components (emotion engine, GPU).  Without the hardware, it can't read PS2 game disks.

  2. yes you can increase the memory. check the online manual in the site and it teaches you how to remove and put new hard drive so it's really possible and legit. i thing it's possible of max 200+-300 gb something.

sorry to say but 40gb, new 80gb (after MGS4 bundle), and the upcoming 160gb can only play ps1 but not ps2 compatible. these models doesn't have the 20gb & 60gb emotion engine or even the old 80gb with software emulation.

they totally removed the ps2 compatible so people will now learn to move on with the latest ps3 games. they think that ps2 is a threat to ps3 since why will people buy a ps3 just to play ps2 when ps2 console is still available and much cheaper...
