Hi,

I have just purchased a used IBM ThinkPad T41 notebook that comes with an 40GB hard disk space. Am trying to upgrade the hard disk to an bigger capacity (80GB) & have tried the following methods but met with no joy. The unit comes with no recovery CD but the recovery partition aka HPA is intact in the 40GB HDD, there are no recovery procedure stated in the Access IBM menu for me a burn a copy. See steps taken below:

1) Using BootCD Ghost v8.3, performed cloning to the 80GB HDD attached to the notebook via an USB external harddisk, cloned was successful but when the 80GB was attached to notebook, system failed to boot up with the DOS cursor blinking at a black page.

2) Using True Image v8.1 following the same arrangement as above, still no joy.

Can someone out there please spend a few moment pen down some solution/ advice for me.

Thanks

  1. Can your BIOS see the full 80GB ?

True 8.1 is kinda old, I suspect it still should work, but no experience on that as last time I use that goes back some years, try to partition the 80GB (attached as USB) into 40/40, clone the current 40GB into the second partition of the 80GB as an image, create a bootable recovery CD for Acronis, replace 40GB with the new 80GB, boot IBM with CD, then restore the image into the first 40/40 partition.
