Upgrading room?

We are going on the Carnival Glory and we are supposed to have a Oceanview room on the Riviera Deck. Are we able to upgrade our room if we want to when we get on the ship and pay a little extra or is that not possible?

  1. i am a member of Carnical Currents and i've traveled with them twice in the past, and i do believe that the 'upgrades' will be to a room in the same category as the one you already have (like Oceanview to Oceanview).

Since the prices are so drastically diffrent from one room to the next (Oceanview is usually around $500...a true upgrade would be to a Oceanview with a balcony which is about $750, or a Category 11 Suite witch runs about $1100) for these upgrades i would contact Carnival's 1-800 number and see what the travel assistant says. they can even upgrade you before you get to the ship, so that you already know what your getting.

    ps

all of the suites in the Carnival line are the greatest (!) in my opinnion! i know you'll have a blast no matter what room you have, even though i find that having a window cuts down on sea-sickness or feeling "holed up" in your room.

    have fun!!

  2. Upgrading to a different room is subject to availability and you will have to pay the difference, often at the last minute full rate and not the advanced savings rate which you may have booked your cruise. Remember in brochures, all cruise lines use wide angle lens on the camera to make the room look bigger. My first cruise experience was a religious experience as when I opened the door to my cabin, all I could say was "Oh my God" as it was so tiny. Three things to look out for when booking a room. Book the biggest room you can afford if you like space in which to move. Many find the smaller cabins fine as they are just there to change clothes and sleep. I like to take breakfast in the room or on the balcony while in port and the extra space in the larger cabins make this very easy to do. You are in this space for 7 days so it also depends on how compatible you and your partner in a confined space. Two, as someone else mentioned, avoid booking under or right over the lifeboats. These are used to move passengers from the ship to shore in ports where the ship cannot fit at the quay. It is called tendering. It is very annoying having your view blocked by a lifeboat or having it being prepared for lowering while you are trying to catch an extra hour of sleep. Three, a balcony is always most rewarding. But if you are afraid of heights, remember you are 6 stories or more above the waterline, then maybe not a great idea. You can change your reservation prior to arriving at the ship. Speak to your agent and look at the deck plans above your room and below. A fee will likely be involved but it is worth paying. Sometime it is just nice to have someplace to store your suticases!

  3. Good lucn. I just back from a cruise on Carnivals Legend and not only wasnt my room what I reserved ( balcony/partially obstructed) but there wasnt anywhere I could go and spent 7 days looking at lifeboat #12. Ihave been on 4 crusies thie years and and it hasnt happend yet. Have fun

  4. You can, but it is dependant upon availablity.  Most of the cruises on the Carnival glory are fully booked when the ship sails.  In fact, every Carnival ship I have been on was full.  I have a reservation on the Carnival Glory in Sept, and I have been told by my PVP that the sail date is already nearly sold out.  If you would like to upgrade, I would suggest you do it as soon as possible.

As for me, I always get the cheapest inside room.  I am only in it to sleep, shower, and dress anyway.  And my PVP at Carnival has always gotten us free upgrades to the best available room in our category.
