Uphill running?

In track I do the 100HH,300IH, 100, 200 and am interested in the 400. I'm not the best but I want to get better. When I run uphill is it a sprint or is it at the same pace I would go on flat surface? About what percent speed? How many times do I do it in how many reps? I'm actually a little run shy so if someone is walking on the hill I have to wait until they are gone. Therefore, I do less uphills. I don't know how to get over it.

  1. It depends on the hill.. Most hills/stair work are usually sprints. If it's a long hill, it'll be a bit different. I do hills & stairs at 85% or more. You can do it at a less intense pace if you're looking to do a more endurance based run. Your goals will determine your pace.

There's no right or wrong answer on how many times to do it.. That's up to you. Not knowing how big the hill is, I couldn't even really guess. If you sprint up the hill as fast as you can, how long does it take to reach the top?

  2. just run past them with confidence.  run uphills faster if you want to improve.

  3. Keep the same or a little higher effort level, so your speed will go down a little.  You can try to sprint up the hills, do as many reps as you can.  If there's someone walking on the hill use the other side of the road or try running trails.
