I have a canon ZR300 digital camcorder, but i do not have all that firewire stuff, and i really dont know to much about it, and dont have the money to get it. anyways, my question is: is it possible to upload video off of the digital tape through regular usb? when i try, my computer does not recognize that i have anything plugged in, and yes, the camera is on. but i know its not the usb cable or port because when i flip the camera to the memory card setting, it opens up on my computer. i really need to get the video off the camera, without buying firewire if thats possible. if you can, could you please explain how to do it, if i even can?

  1. You have already discovered that USB will not work. That is for transferring images from the memory card only.

Firewire (IEEE1394a, i.Link) is what you need to get the miniDV tape video off that camcorder.

Or, you can keep trying USB and keep getting the same result - which you already know is not working.
