Upon graduating high school, did you already have specific career goals in mind?

I'm just wondering if you knew, or atleast thought you knew, what you wanted to do after graduating high school. I am aware of people that haven't known what they wanted to do with their life, or study in college, and now they are paying back more money than they expected to, because they changed their college majors, or career goals, several times. I am unsure as to what I would like to do and fear having to pay back thousands of dollars in loans for classes that would not even contribute to obtaining my college degree, if I decide to earn that.

Also, I have other career ideas in mind that do not require any additional schooling, but rather job training. If I choose to accept a job that does not require schooling, should I go ahead and continue with my education anyway for the sake of society?

If you could provide me some advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. I just wish to live a life of happiness. Money is not so much a factor in my view of success, but rather something that will lead me to do things that I enjoy, such as travelling. ( I will ask more questions later, sorry.) :)

  1. I had a plan that I would get a business degree. After taking some business courses my junior year, I realized it was not for me. I decided to switch to teaching and haven't regreted it yet.

You may consider community for a couple of years. This way you are earning credits and pay a fraction of the cost of 4 year colleges. After completing some basic course work (English, US History, ect...), you can transfer to a univerisity. You may realize over those first two years that you might want to pursue a different career than you first planned.

You will find you mature a lot from Senior year of high school to your junior year of college.

I understand college is expensive, I know because it took me 5 years, but remember, if that is what it takes to land your dream job, it is absolutely worth it. You can never be too educated :0

    Good luck!!

  2. I didn't know what I wanted to do until I took an Intro to Teaching class in community college.

  3. most people don't

  4. I just graduated high school on june 6th of this year.

I have always wanted to go to college but, never knew the right steps.

Plus, my family has no money to help me out.

So, i've thought about what I want to go to school for and I have not figured out exactly what yet.

I have ideas just like you do.

My point is this...you won't waste money if you get goverment aid...financial aid and or go to a tech school for just your generals or a four year college for your generals and then after your generals are completed which usually take 1 or two years to complete you than have to decide what you want to do.

Generals are basically the same for any major/minor.

Ask the school your interested in going to about this stuff.

They would probably be more than willing to help.
