Upped in distance, Lookout Mountain to show significant improvement in Fernham Homes "National Hunt" Maiden Hurdle at Ascot
Fernham Homes "National Hunt" Maiden Hurdle has attracted a dangerous line-up of seven horses at Royal Ascot on Friday, December 21st. An exciting battle is imminent, as most of the runners are open to improvement of one degree or another.
Letsby Avenue has achieved the most over hurdles lately, and looks one of the major players. The 4-year-old ran decently on his seasonal comeback, but failed to produce a favourable outcome. He could only seize the fourth place at Plumpton last month. The
Alan King-trained should build on that, with the trip likely to suit.
Fiddlers Bid also knows how to perform well on heavy surface. The 5-year-old won a flat race on testing ground here last month. Having produced a positive result in difficult conditions, the Fergal O'Brien-trained is flushed with pride, and could play a
big role today.
There are several interesting runners in the pack, but the vote goes to Lookout Mountain. The 4-year-old has already shown winning form on the forecast heavy surface, and should make further improvement for this step up in distance.
Trained by Jonjo O'Neill, the bay gelding made a winning debut at Ffos Las in May. By demonstrating an excellent show, he claimed the first position easily by half a dozen lengths. After taking the first prize on debut, the son of Flemensfirth went on vacations.
Owned by Derrick Smith & Michael Tabor & Mrs John Magnier, the Larry Mealiffe-bred returned to action last month, when seizing the fifth place on hurdling debut.
Although he could not trouble the leading runners, his overall performance was quite forceful in the William Hill "The Jumps" Win £100,000 EBF "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle (Qualifier) at Lingfield.
Now upped in distance, the talented runner is highly likely to show progress and beat the opposition comprehensively today. Letsby Avenue and Fiddlers Bid are the main dangers.
Over a distance of two miles and six furlongs, the contestants will compete for a handsome prize of £5,005. The officials are due to kick off the class-3 meeting at 12:45 GMT. We wish the best of luck to all the horses.
