Question:

Upper Stomach Pain and Yellow Stools?

Recently, my father (53 yrs old) started have pain in his upper stomach stomach, along with loose yellow stools. It all started not quite a week ago following a night of eating a batch of wild mushrooms (morels - nontoxic, but may not have been "fully" cooked"). He knew it was most likely from the mushrooms and just kind of waited it out... Well, pain kind of went away for a one or so but has come back (along with yellow stools). One would assume that the mushrooms would be the initial cause of the problems, but with the effects, it seems his liver/gallbladder may be having issues (bilirubin levels potentially elevated, but not signs of jaundice). He tried taking antacids for a couple days but that hasn't really done much for him. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas of what might be causing this?

  1. yes I agree , this sounds too much like it needs to be properly assessed by a medical professional with access to tests and diagnostics , as alternative medicine and complementary work brilliantly , but first you must know what you are treating , so as not to do any further harm

  2. Unfortunately, I do. Some wild mushrooms are strongly toxic to the liver, and it's pretty easy to make identification mistakes. He needs to see a doctor urgently, to at least eliminate liver damage as a cause of his problems - especially as pale yellow stools are a sign of liver or gallbladder problems.

It is always possible, of course, that he has some sort of infection or parasitic infestation.

You may not be aware that the liver is in the upper abdomen - it sits under the lower ribs.

What can you do before seeing the doc? First thing - no alcohol at all until you know for sure what you are dealing with. After that, there are some herbs that help the liver including dandelion root and milk thistle. But see the doctor first.

  3. i think you need consultation from the doctors.

see your physician make sure he is not dehydrated.
