Question:

Upper and Lower Dentures?

I'm in the process of getting my permanent dentures, but they seem to have a problem and they tell me its due to my mouth being problematic. Every time I have a fitting the dentures do not sit right in mouth, they seem crooked. One side of my mouth the top and bottom teeth will meet correctly while the other side of my mouth there is a gap in between the upper and lower teeth like a space, and I don't think my dentist knows why. He has sent them back to the lab a dozen times and I'm getting frustrated at this point, this has been going on for 3 months now. Do you think I need a another dentist, I'm afraid my dentist is really unable to do this work and he just won't tell me. I've been without teeth now for 5 months and I really want to begin eating solid foods, I'm losing weight and I think its been a very long time to wait for dentures. Any advice will help.

  1. Three months is quite a long time to be adjusting the fit of your dentures. I think your suspicion (that your dentist is unable to do the work properly) may be correct. If you are able to go to another dentist, I would highly suggest doing so. There are dental business chains out there that sepcialize in dentures, like Aspen Dental and Affordable Dentures. However, I'm sure you have a good bit of money invested into this set of dentures, and I'm not sure what can be done in that regard.

  2. There really is no reason not to have your bite correct at this point.  All your doc has to do is place some bite wax on the incorrect side, have you close so the the correct side interdigitates, send the dentures to the lab and have the incorrect side reset.  If you have already had it done this way then something is wrong and you may need another more competent doc/lab. I would stay away from those denture clinics the previous respondent mentioned.
