This started happening to me lately. When I hit with a simple forehand, my upper arm starts to ache. Any ideas as to why and how to alleviate it?

  1. There's a lot of different reasons. Do you stretch very much? I would say you should stretch your arms A LOT before you begin to play tennis, even if it's just against a wall.

  2. what type of racket do u have? if it is a babolat then that is the cause of it. that is because it has a lot of vibration that messes up the weakest part of your arm, that is why they made the cortex babolat but it still might mess up your arm. my advise is that u should get a different type of racket like the k-factor. that is what i am thinking on getting. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. All my tennis related arm injuries have generally been from the elbow to the wrist, but it seems that you're hurting from elbow to the shoulder.

The only times I had similar pains were 1).  I started doing more upper body exercise separate from tennis e.g. push-ups, bench press, heavy lifting so my arm was just sore from that and 2). when I started hitting a more straight over hand serve, creating some strain on my shoulder.

In both situations I just mixed an ice pack on my shoulder between my collar bone arm pit with two Tylenol to soothe the pain and just tried to tough it out. For me it only lasted a week or so in both cases.

    Good luck.

  4. it could be many reasons.. how long have you been playing tennis for?  do you play regularly? would you be consider starter, intermediate or pro player?  I only ask this cause it has something to do with that.. I've heard of a lot of people complaint about things like this and it has to do with the way they hit the ball with the racket, the way you swing at it.. maybe you've pulled a muscle and are unaware of it and only feel it upon movement..

  5. Sounds like a little muscle pull......it might help if you have a dampener put on your racquet and lay off the tennis for a couple of weeks.  Stretching is really really important ....Ibuprofen for the inflammation and ice packs for the tenderness.....then back to the courts
