Ups insurance?

we had a package delivered today that was insured but dammaged. we really need what is inside the box but dont feel we should have dammaged goods. if they pay the insurance will ups take the item, give us back half if we keep it? it was a 300 dollar item so i just dont want to pay full price for something beat up.

Normally, they have the right to keep the item, for salvage value.   You have to send it in as part of the claims process.
