  1. In Canada, the largest Uranium deposits are in the Athabasca Basin in Sasketchewan.

Other important uranium deposits are in South Australia, Russia, Niger, Namibia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, South Africa, USA (the largest deposit in the US is in the Colorado Plateau area located in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona) and Portugal.

  2. Uranium is located worldwide, but substantial deposits are largely restricted to very old rocks (Proterozoic and Archaean), older than half a billion years old.  These can be mined only where such rocks happen to be near the earth's surface.  Such areas of pre-Cambrian rock are known as "shield" areas.
