There is a legend in Mexico that tells of a young girl who was an apprentice for a curandera (healer) in 1925.  This young girl had the gift of healing but was not satisfied so she did away with the curandera.  and made a pact with the devil only to be turned into a "lechusa" owl that can be seen and heard thoughout Mexico.
