Why did urbanization during the time of the empires of meso. and egypt lead to tthe growth of economical and social differences

  1. Urbanization tends to distinguish food producers from non producers. Those not producing food supplies must exchange them for other goods which most likely generates some form of economic differentiation. Producing material goods such as metal tools allow people to live in the urbanized center without working the field.

    But also in ancient civilizations the "production" of symbolic goods such as the communication with the gods, paintings or sculpture would generate an elite of specialists that could avoid food production in exchange for symbolic protection. This can also lead to power imbalances that will finally constitute a stratified society.


  2. The techonolgy of the day and urban planning.  Like water, sewer, and food transport and socialization are all huge things to focus on.
