Urethane or Thompson's water seal for a window sill in a shower?

Not sure what to apply used a wood filler to fix some small gaps in wood then applied some stain. What should I do now to protect the wood? Thompsons or Urethane?

Actually, the best coating would be a marine type of epoxy, like System Three. You can mix it up, paint it on like varnish and it will withstand all kinds of abuse.

A wooden window sill in a shower is not a great solution. Tiling is a common treatment. You can seal that thing with the marine grade epoxy, like System Three. I've used it for all kinds of difficult places where moisture is a problem and it works remarkably well.

I wouldn't put much stock in either Thompson's Water Seal or a Urethane.

I suggest you tile it!  I always tile any windowsill in bathrooms!

This whole project will cost very little, and the results will last for years!

get a waterbased polyurethane-much easier-esp if you ever want to paint it again.

Thompson's Water Seal is merely wax in a petroleum based carrier.  It never lasts and has to be constantly reapplied for effect.  The product claims are a sham on the consumer.  What you need to use on this, being what it is, is two or three coats of Spar or Helmsman Urethane as these will provide you and this window the best protection and durability.

Another option would be to remove the wood and use PVC or other plastic board in it's place. I think long term, you will have less problems and it will be cheaper. remove the wood sill and any wood trim pieces. Replace with vinyal pieces and caulk. They are white, so you won't have to deal with paint or rot again.

thompsons wont last very long you shouldnt use wood at all but a good exterior polyurethane would be best
