Question:

Urgen dental braces question?

I've had my braces of for 2 years, which my orthodonist said I would. My teeth are straight and have been for a while now (about six months). I'm still advised to wear rubber bands at night though. I'm starting a new school this fall. I'm all about first impressions as well..and I really want to have a pretty smile for school. If I get my braces off this August, will they go back in place? I figured that I could just wear my retainer all the time..I don't care because its much less visible then my chunky orange/yellow braces (I have ceramics) which get very very embarassing and make me self concious. I hope I don't sound selfish. Will my teeth shift with my retainer in? Will it be a waste of money getting them off? Or would it be worse leaving them on and not wanting to talk/smile at people with my gross braces?

  1. i mean if there stright and look fine

i dont see why you couldnt get them off

just wear the retainer, but im sure you will

    :]

  2. braces are a common thing in middle and high school. no one is going to look at you and say "ewe, i dont want to be her friend" bc you have them!

  3. If your orthodontist is telling you to keep your braces on longer, and since you're wearing rubber bands, then your braces are trying to fix your bite (underbite or overbite) since braces do more than just straighten your teeth!  If you've had them for 2 years already, you should be pretty much done.  Ask your orthodontist whether or not you can get them taken off!

But i think you shouldnt have to wait much longer probably, so don't worry too much about getting them off right away! :]

About retainers, once you get your braces off, your teeth won't move back as long as you wear retainers constantly.  For the first 6 months after you have your braces off you need to wear your retainers for 24 hours a day.  This is because the bone tissue in your teeth is still settling, and if you dont wear them they can shift, causing you to need braces again later in life O: !

After the first 6 months, you just wear your retainers at night while you're sleeping for the rest of your life.  If you're good with your retainers you wont need braces again when you're older.  Its worth the silly wire line! ;]

    Hope this helped.

  4. No your teeth won't shift with a retainer in. They would shift if you didn't have your retainer in. But you just have to wait until your orthodontist says its okay to take them off. They may look straight, but only your orthodontist really knows. So just hang in there.
