Urgent, installing timing belt on Nissan Frontier 6cyl

Question

Lined up all 3 marks, but when we rotated the engine 3 times it jumped a tooth. What did we do wrong? (besides not going to a mechanic)

You didnt get the belt on properly or the tension is incorrect. Try again.

will s has a good point   try again   but hers a question to always ask when replacing timing belts and chains:what caused the chain failure???  seized pully bad tensioner (or spring on some models) seized motor etc etc....and really not going to a mechanic is not a bad idea  we are expensive and a lot of my competeters are jackasses.....
