Ok people I need to know if Mao Zedong was an absolutist or democrat; if he was responsive to the will of the people; how he dealt with critical situations...I have read much about him but I'm unsure...PLEASE help!

Mass executing some 2 million revolutionaries during the formation of China and persecuting another 500,000 during the hundred flowers campaign doesn't seem very democratic to me. Maybe I'm missing something that would make this a hard question, but I can't think of what that would be.
