x*x school

Dear principal

This is x*x, mother of x*x, attending year two.

My son has been attending this school for one week, and I want to know whether he is doing well. Our family just arrived x*x two weeks ago from x*x(Asia), and we do not understand and speak English well, in addition my son is attending normal English classes. My concern is that he does not understand English at all, plus he does not know any alphabets. Few days ago, I asked my son, what he had learnt in school during a week, and he did not have any idea what he was learning. I heard that every school has an ESOL system, and I want my son to be in ESOL class learning from the basics. Please take care of it.

In future, if I have these kinds of problems, I would like to know who can look after my son, because when I had this problem at the beginning, I asked x*x who is International Student coordinator and she told me to contact you (principal), which was a bit disappointing, especially when she knew that we could not speak English well.

I look forward for good results.

Thank you

Yours sincerely,

x*x

  1. I don't know what you mean about not knowing English. Your letter is WAY better than a great many that are written by Americans. Maybe your principal doesn't really believe that you need help if your English is really this good.

If your son needs help, he is entitled to get it. Continue to speak to the principal and then the guidance counselor, who is the one who puts kids in their classes. Speak to any teachers you need to, as they could have some ideas for you, too.

It would probably be better for you to speak directly to people instead of writing, even if your English skills are not great. If they are really, really poor, find an interpreter to go with you. People will understand your problem much better if they can see you and talk face to face, and you won't have to wait so long to hear back.

  2. It may be easier to phone them or speak to them in person, but I've went through the letter anyway.

    Dear principal,

This is x*x, mother of x*x who is currently attending year two.

My son has been attending this school for one week, and I would like to know whether he is doing well. Our family just arrived here two weeks ago from <country> (Asia). As English is not our native language, I am worried about his progress in English class, as I think he may be struggling. A few days ago, I asked my son what he had learnt in school during that week, and he did not have any idea what he was learning. I think he may have trouble understanding the language and problems learning. I heard that every school has an ESOL system, and I would like my son to be in ESOL class learning from the basics.

In future, if I have these kinds of problems, I would like to know who can help my son, because when I had this problem at the beginning, I asked x*x who the International Student coordinator was and she told me to contact you (the principal), which was a bit disappointing. Especially since she knew we could not speak English well.

    Thanks in advance,

    Yours sincerely,

    x*x

My concern is that he does not understand English at all, plus he does not know how to spell. A few days ago, I asked my son what he had learnt in school that week, and he told me he did not understand the work. I heard that every school has an ESOL system, and I would like my son to be in an ESOL class learning all the basics. Please have a look into it.

Could you please give me a contact that I could talk to if  my son has these problems in the future?

I look forward to good results.

    Thank you
