Urgent Help! Avast is acting weird! 10 points!?

I have a Windows Vista

I'm trying to uninstall the program but it keeps saying that there's 2 setiface errors and that I either need to reinstall or contact support.

I tried to change the program in the "Programs and Features" but it won't let me uninstall the program

I've also tired to go to

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html

but that didn't help either because it says the defense system was on even though I already disabled it!

I've also tried to uninstall the program in Ccleaner but that didn't work either because the same error message popped up.

What can I do?

  2. To remove Avast Use RevoUninstaller:

    http://www.download.com/Revo-Uninstaller...

It's faster and better than add / remove applet.

When you run it highlight the item then select uninstall in next window select Advanced and click Next, follow prompts when uninstalled it will scan registry and drive for leftover files / folders, tick ONLY the bold items and follow prompts.

Also you may be the victim of malicious codecs that stop Avast from functioning correctly, so firstly try the following:

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Removes Antivirus:

    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant...

Download, install, update and select Full Scan.

Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

    Spybot S&D:

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl...

Download, install, update and Immunize, then click 'Check for problems' then when complete select all and then 'Fix Checked'

Spyware Doctor Free Basic Edition - Realtime monitoring:

    http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_inst...

Its free with Google pack, untick all boxes except Spyware Doctor. Download install, update and run.

    SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition:

    http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware...

Download, install, check for updates, then select Scan your Computer, select your drive and select Perform Complete Scan

    VundoFix:

    http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/gl...

Disconnect your computer from the internet

    Run vundo

    Restart your computer

Run the tool again to ensure no traces are left.

If there are the reboot into Safe Mode and run FixVundo again.

If your desktop has changed or icons are missing also use:

    Wallpaper Hijacker Removal Tool:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Wallpaper_Hija...

Note: You should hit all "Repair" buttons even though it may not say "Found!" This will fix a wallpaper hijack everytime if all repair buttons are pressed.

Avast is ceratinly one of the better AV's:

better definitions, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit built in, faster and more reliable:

    Setup Guide:

Maybe uninstall then reinstall after running above programs.

  3. You shouldn't need to reformat.  Most likely you can accomplish the uninstall by first disabling the services running the "defense system".  In order to do this it may be necessary for you to boot into safe mode and with an Administrator account.

There is a link in the source which describes how to boot into Safe mode.

Once Vista has loaded, press the Windows key and the R key at the same time to open the Run prompt.  Type "services.msc" into the box without quotes.  You will need to locate the Avast services running and stop them, generally you can do this just by right clicking on them and selecting Stop.  Once the services are stopped, you should be able to accomplish the uninstallation using normal methods.

Another option is to use the msconfig utility to specify a Diagnostic or Selective startup and not load the Avast services, if they are available to be unchecked.
