  1. This method should work for most fabrics: After testing for colorfastness on a hidden spot, sponge over the stain with pure acetone, available at beauty-supply shops and drugstores. Then launder the shirt as you normally would. Never use acetone on fabrics that contain triacetate or acetate (check care labels), because it can dissolve the cloth. For those, use amyl acetate, available at drugstores.

I also heard that bug spray also works.

  2. Step1

Saturate a clean cloth with acetone nail polish remover. Pat the stain with the polish remover. Do not rub the area or you could cause the stain to spread.

    Step2

Purchase pure acetone from a beauty supply or drug store if the nail polish remover does not work. Most commercially sold acetone nail polish remover is only 50-percent acetone and might not be strong enough to tackle the stain on your shirt.

    Step3

Use a fabric stain remover, such as Shout, on the spot after you remove the worst of the polish with the acetone.

    Step4

Try a stronger stain removal product such as Goo-Gone if the nail polish stain is stubborn and still has not lifted from the fabric.

    Step5

Mix a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water in a 1:1 ratio if the shirt that you got the polish on is white. Do not use hydrogen peroxide on a colored shirt because it causes most colors to run. Spray the solution on the stain and pat it dry with a clean cloth.

    Step6

Launder the shirt as you normally would once most of the nail polish is gone.

    Step7

Bring the shirt to a dry cleaner that specializes in stain removal if you are unable to get the stain out at home.
