Question:

[Urgent] If front-line flea pesticide gets rubbed on the carpet, bed, et cetera in a bedroom, is it dangerous?

If a single spot-on front-line flea pesticide container, which has 9% Fipronil as its active ingredient, gets rubbed on your bed and carpet, how toxic is this, how long does it last, and what should be done?

I have put new bed sheets, a new blanket, and new pillow cases on my bed - but is that enough? Could it have absorbed into the mattress, and could poison me as I sleep on the bed?

And what about the carpet? Does it need to just be ripped up and replaced? Will it forever dislodge toxic Fipronil each time that it is vacuumed?

I'm apprehensive about ever entering my room again, unfortunately, after this.

After the front-line was smeared on things in my room, was it merely those surfaces that became contaminated, or could the Fipronil or even the inert ingredients have diffused into the air and have been breathed in? If so, would this be a negligent amount that the body could quickly flush out, or will it linger in the body and/or have any toxicity?

  1. I'd keep any pet rabbits away, but other than that, the danger should be minimal.  Some flea treatments for dogs and cats seem to be deadly to lagomorphs (rabbits, hares, pikas).

If you are worried about the toxicity of the chemical, you can use a carpet cleaner over that spot to completely remove the remnants of it.  The carpet is the only place I'd have any concern (since you washed everything else), but it's probably not too much of an issue since most of the chemical has already soaked beneath the surface, where it would be an issue, anyways.

It's not as dangerous as the warning label makes it sound, since they are just doing that to legally cover their butts in case something does happen.  If it was really so dangerous, it wouldn't be sold in tube and spray forms for household use.

  2. dude i appreciate your concerns, but everything in this world is made or turns into a chemical! you must relax, you worry me. seriously! your bed is fine!

  3. Call poisen control immediatly

I do expect a "Best Answer" rating from you, for my quick response.

  4. Only if you sweep the carpet with your tongue. Some people are weird enough to do that. Are you?

  5. You seem to be completely obsessed with minute details of health (care) and 'things' imposing on or entering your system/body/self. Take your question about Xray exposure for example. I answered you truthfully, from a medical point of view, to reassure you and to alleviate any problems you might think up (note the last wording, precisely THINK UP as in imagine, make worse, obsess about etc) that have NO validation in science, medical history nor normal life.

Xrays do NOT cause cancer if you have six of them five years ago. Xrays DO cause changes in cell structure if you are exposed to them continuously, permanently, without relief and at close range, for a long period of time and in excessive amounts. This does NOT validate your fear of 'getting cancer' from a mere six xrays. If you are afraid of six xrays or of ONE flea pesticide container (the outside of the container?!?!) where do you stop worrying?!

Seriously, you have something very very disturbingly mentally wrong with you (and yes, I acknowledge you have autism, so you disclose yourself on your profile, but that is only part of the excuse I reckon, which is only, of course, my very own personal private opinion) and you need professional health care to learn how to cope with living, with the world around you and with this fear of things impinging on you.

The Fipronil is toxic if you inhale it, l**k it, eat it, breath it and bath in it in excessive amounts like Fifty Thousand Containers Opened and Emptied at the Same Time in a room with the windows closed. Now, does this make sense? One container is a pitty, it is not recommended, but you wash your hands, wash your bedding (once on a normal cycle) and you get on with your life.

Oh. I forgot. This IS your life.

Well good luck with not accepting anyones reassurance, good will, true experience and valuable knowledge directly from the medical field (and believe you me, I have seen some majorly UGLY diseases in my time, and no, they did not stem from outsides of pesticide containers.......) and just keep on asking questions to which you will not believe the answers.

    Good luck.

And good luck to the peeps around you coz by god, they are going to need it bad.
