Question:

*Urgent* Pet Goat Possibly Dying.

I've got a pet goat, I've had him for over a year. He's always been healthy, but just around an hour ago my mom called me outside. He was breathing very heavily, and he could not stand. It seemed as if he was trying to eat, but he just put his face up to the food. I went inside to look up illnesses, and I heard him scream. I ran back outside and he was on his side, still heavily breathing, but his legs were "paddling", almost. I started to talk to him and pet him, then he screamed again and jumped up. He stood up, shaking, and stuck his head to the food again. I'm afraid he won't last through the night. Does anyone know what may be wrong?

  1. He might be bloating.  That can happen with goats.  You can't let them overeat.  To help him get through this, you could try walking him on a leash.  You can't let him lay down.  Walking helps with the bloat and moves things through his system.  Bloat is painful and he can die from it.  Don't offer him anymore food right now.  No grain, no hay.  Just walk him.  You might have to do this for a few hours.  I also recommend having your mom call out the vet to your house ASAP.  The vet can tube him which will save his life.

  2. I have had goats and never had one do this.  I would be rushing to the vet.

  3. i say VET NOW

  4. Call the vet right away or you will lose him!!! Have you changed his diet or anything? Is he wethered or still "whole"? Wethers are prone to kidney stones that can kill them, I lost one to that before.
