I am flying to US next monday. I've booked a medium size car Toyota Corolla and plan to drive from Seatle to the east coast lake areas (Duluth, michigan etc) and then drive thru the skyling drive and blueridge parkway then west to new mexico and up to the arizona and then back to Seatle. However, I find that I need to drive a lot, average about 8 hours a day andnow I am worrying about the petro cost. Can anyone brief me on how much I may have to spend on petro for an average 8 hours drive? I don't want to drive crazy. I would drive about 60mph. Pls advise asap. I may have to think of dropping my plan if the cost is outrageous!

  1. yes

  2. A Toyota Corolla generally gets over 30 MPG.  This website will help you find gas prices where you're going.

  3. If you really drive that long per day, you're going to end up filling up a Corolla's tank (about 13 gallons) about once a day.  13 * 4 is 52, so you're looking at spending about 50 bucks a day on gas, or slightly less depending on whether gas is less than $4 per gallon.

  4. Gas is going to be an average of $4 a gallon, and that will go up and down in different places. If the corolla gets an average of 25 mpg, thats $4 for every 25 miles. You can probably use a map to figure out the distance that you will be driving, but from the west coast to the east coast and back will be a few thousand miles. See if you can rent a hybrid car, like the Prius which can get around 50 mpg depending on how you drive. That could save you a LOT in the price of gas. It would definitely be worth it to search for one. It should be plenty big enough for you, and there is plenty of room for passengers, and a fairly large trunk. Good luck on your trip!
